Church of the Santo Daime doctrine - Rio de Janeiro, RJ - Brazil

Travel Tips

Here goes some tips in order for you to have a good experience in our country, city and church:

  • You must apply for a tourist visa to visit Brazil, with the exception of a few countries. Check with the nearest Brazilian embassy in your country. You might need, some times, a few weeks to have this permit issued.
  • The church of the Céu do Mar follows the official calendar of the Santo Daime doctrine, but some works (with the exception of concentrations and new year's eve) can be rescheduled to the following day or weekend. It does not happen often, but you can't disregard the possibility. We usually confirm the dates of the works with one week in advance.
  • Visitors who are coming for their first experience with the Santo Daime must go through a personal interview, at least one day prior to the ceremony. You can contact us by our phone number or the email contato@ceudomar.org
  • The community of the Céu do Mar does not have housing for visitors, which is a future project yet to be accomplished, therefore, we are placing some hostel numbers in order for you to best plan your trip. In case you are looking for better accommodations we advises you to contact your travel dealer, as they are better experienced in the field. Rio de Janeiro is in general a welcoming city and the area of the hostels is safe, close to the church (approximately 25 minutes by taxi) and nature.
Some hostels available in the city of Rio de Janeiro: Check for the Brazilian currency (Reais) exchange.

How to Arrive

The Céu do Mar's church is very easy to find, even though it is amid the dense tropical forest, a few miles from the urban city.

You have two ways to get there, and one is to take a cab, from wherever you are in the city, and ask to go to Estrada da Canoa 3036, São Conrado. Cab drivers know the way and as a reference you can say that you want to go a few turns after the Mirante das Canoas (Canoa's Belvedere).

If you are going by bus you can see on the map some of the bus lines that cross the city. The green spot in São Conrado is where you must get off the bus, almost in front of Estrada da Canoa Street, just before a tunnel that leads to Barra da Tijuca. Be careful to not miss this bus stop, as the next one is already after the tunnel.

After getting off the bus you have to walk a block back to the Estrada da Canoa Street. There you are going to find a bus stop (orange spot), a hundred yards from the corner, where you have to take a minibus going up the hill. They usually pass at every hour, and it is always good to arrive ten minutes before. Be careful to not get into any van service, even though they might offer you, as they never go all the way up to the church. It will be a long walk for you in some cases.

After you get into the minibus you just ask the driver to stop for you at the Santo Daime church. All the drivers know where the church is and you might come across several people also going to the same place.

Have a safe trip and we are waiting for you.
